About Tamara White
The great granddaughter of a landscape artist, Booker T. Washington graduate Tamara White is a prolific Dallas painter. Her work is among many corporate and private art collections spanning the U.S., including award-winning Chef Kent Rathbun, 7-11’s corporate offices, and even Queen Latifah’s personal collection.
Seduced by the lushness of oil she applies paint generously creating texture that brings life to her use of bright color. Though most of her paintings are abstract, small imagery may appear. Instead of using solvents to dilute the paint White applies color straight from the tube using a palette knife as an extension of her hand. She keeps the paint as thick as possible while letting each color determine what happens next through the varied viscosity inside the paint. Within each painting something new is discovered and inspiration is found. The artist also achieves substance and depth in her acrylic works.
Her latest series expounds on multi-layered paintings by scraping through and manipulating the wet paint to reveal a mirage of tiny paintings within the canvas. With a massive amount of leftover paint from the scraping, she will begin a new painting by building texture from the latter…reduce, reuse, recycle.
Featured in solo exhibitions at Belmont Hotel and Brooke Berman Gallery at Hotel Palomar, she is one of the founding artists of Rathbun’s Art Party Dallas; an annual event benefiting March of Dimes since 2003. Other charities that have benefited from the sale of her donated artwork include: Art For Advocacy, Art for the Bridge at The Women’s Museum, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, ART (Animal Rescue of Texas) and Human Rights Campaign.
Tamara’s work has been featured in arts publication Patron Magazine, PaperCity, Modern Luxury Dallas and D Home’s Restaurant Design Awards issue, achieving Best Art Collection for her work installed at Abacus Restaurant.
